MAIN HALL EMBROIDERY

Members of the Skykill Embroiderer’s Guild volunteered to reproduce a historic needlework banner that measured 103 by 96 inches and hung in the mansion’s Main Hall. The banner features the Annunciation and replicates the original banner owned by the Mills’ family. Thought to be from the late 17th or early 18th century the banner was carried in Italian religious processions called “festas.”

Decorative flourish

This special project took the Guild volunteers 25 years to complete. The Friends purchased all the embroidery threads. It was estimated they produced over 10,000 square inches of fine needlework.
