We invite you to join the Ruth Mills Legacy Society. The Society recognizes and honors individuals who demonstrate a deep commitment to the future of the Friends of Mills at Staatsburgh by including the Friends in their estate plans.
Legacy planning is an opportunity to transfer more than your wealth. It’s a chance to express your values and celebrate your passions. It is a powerful way to honor the charities that are important to you. Planning on how you want to give after life also influences how others will remember you.
Through your vision and generosity, you help us safeguard this special place. You are ensuring the work and mission of the Friends to preserve, restore and interpret Staatsburgh State Historic Site will endure for generations to come.
Ruth’s daughter, Gladys generously donated her family estate including the mansion and its original furnishings to allow the public to learn about this unique chapter of the social and economic history of the country, the Gilded Age, through her family story. You can be part of the ongoing celebration by leaving a legacy to support Staatsburgh.

Your goals are unique to your personal and financial situation. There are many creative and flexible planned giving options that can benefit you as well as the Friends. Several of the options for you to become a Society member include:

As there are many ways to utilize legacy giving, your personal circumstances will determine the best structure for you to support the Friends. Making a contribution in this way may provide favorable estate tax benefits for you and your family. We understand that life situations change. It is always under your control to change according to your circumstances. We advise consulting your estate and tax advisors in advance as you plan your gift to the Friends.
As a small, volunteer non-profit, we are limited in the types of gifts we can accept. Please review the Friends of Mills at Staatsburgh Gift Policy where we explain further.
Please email us at friends@millsfriends.org with questions or to tell us of your plans. Your inquiry is confidential and places you under no obligation.
If you have already arranged for a bequest or other planned gift, we are deeply grateful. Please let us know. We would enjoy the opportunity to thank you and make sure your intentions are carried out properly.
We hope to be part of your ongoing legacy!
